This is my Review of Enter the Gungeon, a Rogue-like Dungeon crawler, A game I have spent many hours playing. Enter the Gungeon's plot goes as follows; You are here to "kill the past" to kill the past you must use the aptly named "Gun that can kill the past" the game revolves around the player using one of the many characters to go through different levels to reach this gun.
I heavily enjoyed this game, it was fun in many ways to me, the plot and comedy engaged me throughout the entire game. When it came to replaying i would everyday and at least do a few runs before I was done. I payed 15 dollars for this game on steam, and gotten 365 hours of fun. I have recommended this game to every person i think enjoys a fair challenge. The plot was interesting right from the start, and as I played I realized how much more to it there was, and not only did each character have a different ending, but getting each got me closer to more secrets held within the Gungeon. The story also included secret characters two of them being necessary to gain the true ending. Most characters backstory is slightly shallow with a few having extremely engaging and mysterious backgrounds. All dialog in the game has a comedy to it, even the lore and narrative. The game-play was hard, but also very funny with the items and way it played. There are 5 areas in the game as well as 4 secret areas and 7 different endings. there are 4 starting characters and 4 unlockables each with different starting items and abilities. Each common floor has about 3 bosses randomly picked per floor, except for the last floor and all the secret floors with their own respective bosses. Each floor and its enemies fit with it, a ice and fire floor having those respective mobs. You kill all the enemies in the room to progress. The weapons are all guns or related, with swords cursing you to fight tougher enemies. Most items are references to popular pop culture, such as a box that makes you invisible to enemies and a sword that shoots lasers when swung. The game rewards you for trying and being randomized makes you find fun new combinations, unlocking everything changes a starter gun into a very powerful one, reminiscent to your change. The art for the game's sprites was pixel art and playfully proportioned, enemies having large faces and all entities, save for detailed bosses had simple shapes for features. The sprite work for title cards and effects where extremely detailed and fit with the pixel art. the animation was smooth and the characters and enemies consistent with each other. The colors blended in well with the background each environment and enemy changing per level. The music in the game is all very appropriate with songs for important rooms such as shops, bosses secrets, and more. There is only one area in the game where there is a voice over, Which is jarring and amusing as it is so unexpected. For a secret boss not even important to the main story. Every part of the environment had a sound. weapons, enemies, and even tables being knocked over. Everything from the creaking of the derelict halls of the Gungeon proper to the books in a library blended in and held my suspension of belief. The controls are all custom and well tuned on either key board and mouse to game controller. The menu is straight forward and its easy to change controls as well as to start a game. Volume is able to be changed too with ease. The player inventory was unorganized and harder to use, the lore and information of every item found was better organized. The map in the game is necessary and very easy to use, the tutorial teaches you how to use it to revisit areas of the floor. Lastly there was only one secret in the menu allowing you to turn on "beast mode" the joke being it does nothing and unlocks you a item" The game crashed due to my computer not always being ready to load all the projectiles and items at once a few times. The spaghetti mess of code makes it hard to mod but it is possible. most text is easy to read, except for two characters, who have special text to help show their character. I Rate Enter the Gungeon 5 stars out of 5, would buy again.

Color, something that we see in everyday life seems to go unappreciated unless being directly used for showing something specific in a design. We use it everyday, its not just black and white, we add color to help differ items and certain emotion. We use value and hue/saturation to flesh out items too. The simple green and blue we see outside everyday even impacts us and how we see the world. Color doesn't take all of our attention away from something, it flows into the background and helps emphasize.
Color is most used for feeling, like using contrast or warm/ cool colors to create such feelings. value is the the darkness or lightness in the the color, which is used to change the light source or texture on a item. can also be used well when blended, blending it with other colors to creating certain tones. anything can be made more realistic by adding color,value, and blending. |
